THE
PROGRAMS
The Sound Foundation Academy Music Program will meet for 34 weeks each school year, utilizing the fantastic network of One Day Academy. Classes will be held once a week with several locations available to accomodate travel needs. The program will consist of a beginning woodwind class, a beginning brass class, and intermediate band, as well as guitar, elementary and private lessons.
Adult commitment: Parents will be required to stay one week each semester to meet the teacher/student ratio required by the church for elementary.
Mr. Newsome is also available for private instrument lessons on guitar, trumpet, french horn, trombone, tuba, and baritone, as well as 60-90 minute long presentations for homeschool groups or elementary schools.
MISSION
The mission of the Sound Foundation Academy is to offer the same opportunities for music education and performances found in public schools to home schooled students.

THE TEACHER
Eric Newsome has been teaching band in the public school system for the past 11 years and has 1 year under his belt as Sound Foundation Academy Director. Eric is from Houston, TX and he graduated with a bachelor's degree in trombone performance from Baylor University. Mr. Newsome earned his Master's degree in music performance from the University of Michigan. After leaving Michigan, he began his teaching career at Memorial High School in Spring Branch ISD. He had the privilege of opening WoodCreek Junior High in Katy ISD in 2008, and finished his public school teaching after his 8th year at WoodCreek Junior High, though he continues to give private lessons to many public schooled students.
Groups under his direction have received sweepstakes awards at UIL competitions and "best in class" ratings at various festivals throughout Texas. Students under his direction have gone on to receive superior ratings at solo and ensemble contests. A few have even gone on to successful careers in Music Education themselves.
Mr. Newsome truly enjoys working with young children to foster and grow their love of music as well as building their character to become responsible young men and women. He is married to his wife of 16 years, Misty, and she has homeschooled their 5 children ages 11, 8, 6, 5 and 3 months for 5 years.
Besides keeping the appropriate teacher/child ratio, the Newsome's have had FBI and state background checks done in 2011, 2013, and 2014 for their international adoption. You can rest easy that they pass all clearances needed!
